This activity, which I learned from New York City storyteller Laura Simms, helps listeners release a lot of energy. It is useful before or after a quiet, intense story. Instruct the audience:

Listen very carefully while we sing this traditional song.
Every time we sing a word which begins with B,
if you are down, you must get up.
If you are up, you must get down!

If they are seated in chairs, they will stand up and sit down repeatedly. If they are sitting on the floor, they can kneel on knees and raise the body up and down.

In either case, they will exercise large muscles. They will also laugh at surprises and mistakes. After doing this once, they may want to try again - faster!
