I tell many kinds of stories. They range from quiet listening to antic audience participation. When I tell to folks who may have little or no fluency in English, I must pick tales which I can "illustrate" with lively face and body gesture to reinforce the meaning of the words. I simplify the language. I add musical accompaniment and sound effects, hoping that they'll enjoy the sounds even if they don't catch all the words. When I tell in Japan, Mrs. Hiroko Fujita introduces each tale with a brief synopsis in Japanese. People delightedly discover, "I didn't understand the words, but I understood the story!"

Here are some of the "traveling tales" which are most loved by my audiences overseas - and at home. I hope you enjoy them too! I encourage you to try retelling them in your own words, in a style that fits your listeners.
