about

Based on a folktale from the southern Appalachian mountains, "Sody Saleratus" is the old-fashioned country name for baking soda.

You can invite the listeners to sing the song along with you, in different voices to suit the characters. If little children are frightened by the "big.. hungry... BEAR!" I encourage them to say this part with me.

I usually approach an adult in the front row and address him/her as the Storekeeper. Usually they play along and reply appropriately. Some of them even speak Squirrel!
